Helen Woodward Animal Center recently delivered 100 pet sweaters and blankets, as well as more than 400 care kits (including hand sanitizer, masks, waters, and granola bars), to the city’s homeless at Father Joe’s Neil Good Day Center. The donation was made possible thanks to the kindness of Sharron MacDonald, Marzena Poniatowska, Alice Dang, and a business in Minnesota, MinnesewtaMask. Launched four years ago, HWAC’s Pets Without Walls has assisted homeless families by keeping their furry companions fed and healthy. Before the pandemic, the program made regular bi-weekly visits to shelters headed by Alpha Project, Father Joe’s Villages, Interfaith in Mission Valley, and Family Health Center, providing health checks, microchipping, preventative medical care, vaccinations, flea and tick medication, and pet food as well as human clothing and blanket donations from the center’s Orphaned Object Resale Shop.
