St. Germaine Children’s Charity has announced that it will be funding the requests from well-deserving San Diego social service agencies applying for grants this year — immediately. Thanks to the generous donations of their members, underwriters, and friends of St. Germaine, $160,000 is being granted to: Walden Family Services, Home Start, Children’s Initiative, Promises2Kids, New Haven Services, Kids Turn San Diego, Casa Cornelia Law Services, Aseltine School, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego, Star/Pal, Friends of Vista Hill, Outdoor Outreach, Episcopal Community Services, San Diego Rescue Mission, and San Diego Youth Services. Distribution of funding has already started.

“We had to act now,” says SGCC President, Stefanie Bedingfield. “Given the increased threat that the pandemic imposes on youth at risk, we expedited our grant making process to ensure that critical funding is available to our partner organizations today. But there is more work to do. The community will join together to help families in crisis. We have a moral imperative. Domestic violence and abuse is increasing with the rise of joblessness and additional stresses imposed by stay-at-home orders. We want our partner organizations serving families on the front lines to know that St. Germaine will be here for them.”

“St. Germaine is a shining example of how to creatively adapt so the positive impact of funding is immediate. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” says Kathryn Stephens, Director of Philanthropy, Walden Family Services.

Below are some of the essential services being provided by these local agencies during the pandemic:

  • Emergency supplies/gift cards for food, diapers, first aid items and cleaning supplies
  • Gap funding to assist those who have lost jobs
  • Therapy services and tele-medicine options
  • Safety equipment for social workers
  • Adequate housing for homeless in need

St. Germaine Children’s Charity is a California nonprofit corporation with more than 200 members committed to the prevention of abused and neglected children and young adults in San Diego. Stay tuned for announcements about St. Germaine’s participation in @GivingTuesday (May 5, 2020, #givingtuesdaynow) and plans for a virtual celebration party with a special celebrity guest appearance, reporting from partner organizations on the real impact giving has had on families in crisis, and more. stgermainechildrenscharity.org
