Balboa Park Rose Garden

Posted on June 8, 2016

A visit to the Rose Garden in Balboa Park never disappoints. Officially known as the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden, this magnificent floral area is home to approximately 1,600 roses of many varieties. There are between 100-200 types of roses at any one time, creating an explosion of color and patterns that dazzle. New plants join older ones each year, mixing currency with tradition and giving nod to individual identities and cultural trends. Dozens of volunteers work diligently to maintain the garden, and, not surprisingly, this is a very popular wedding spot. Located at the east end of El Prado across Park Boulevard, take the pedestrian bridge near the San Diego Natural History Museum to get there. The garden has received national and international honors from the All-America Rose Selections, the World Federation of Rose Societies, and the Great Rosarians of the World Hall of Fame. sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/parks/regional/balboa/rosegarden   Darlene G.
