XXV: The Silver Anniversary Exhibition

In celebration of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido’s 25th anniversary season, selections from the museum’s permanent collection will be on view. The exhibition will also include ephemera and photos from throughout the center’s history as well as its annual Día de los Muertos altar. Hidden Pacific 3D

Giant manta rays, enormous coconut crabs, and even the world’s oldest known bird — great stories are revealed in Hidden Pacific 3D, a film being shown in the San Diego Natural History Museum’s Charmaine and Maurice Kaplan Theater through February 16, 2020. Journey through beautiful islands and atolls, such as Palmyra and Midway, of the Pacific Ocean, gathering fascinating scientific and human stories along the way. Watching this 3D movie allows viewers to experience a sense of walking and diving with scientists, conservationists, and dedicated volunteers, all devoted to the protection of the pristine islets. sdnhm.org

Coronado Film Festival
November 8-11

The Coronado Island Film Festival will open with two critically acclaimed films. Marriage Story, starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, is already receiving Oscar buzz and will screen at Village Theatre. The second film, The Etruscan Smile, starring Thora Birch, Brian Cox, and Rosanna Arquette, will screen at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. Saturday night’s film, A Hidden Life, is the centerpiece screening of the festival. Then, the stars will shine brightly on Sunday when five film industry luminaries will be recognized at Leonard Maltin’s Celebrity Tribute. The red carpet gala at the Hotel del Coronado will honor Cloris Leachman, Diane Warren, Michelle Phillips, Lois Burwell, and John Toll. Following a Veteran’s Day Salute at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, the festival will close with three spectacular movies: The Biggest Little Farm at Village Theatre, Clemency starring Alfre Woodard; and Some Like it Hot, screened on the beach at the Hotel del Coronado. coronadoislandfilmfestival.com

Moonlit New Member Soiree

Under the first full moon of November, the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club brings verve to the garden party concept. Luring a new generation of members, the event, taking place from 5-8pm, will feature a moon ceremony, live botanical art by Coburn Topiary, seasonal elixirs, canapés, garden creations by The Horticult, and more. Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club is a nearly 100-year-old philanthropic organization. A retrospective collection of works by world-renowned artist Jean Kazandjian will be on exhibition and available for acquisition. The exhibition will feature 80 pieces of Kazandjian’s work created between 1991 and 2019. Kazandjian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, where he lived until his early 20s. The San Diego Museum of Art presents an exhibition featuring nearly 40 paintings by the popular French academic artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825–1905). Bouguereau & America showcases the master’s traditional use of composition, form, and subject matter, bringing to life paintings of goddesses, heroes, shepherdesses, and nymphs, including the beloved work The Young Shepherdess (1885), drawn from the Museum’s permanent collection. sdmart.org

Cambodian Rock Band
November 12-December 15
This epic play/rock concert thrusts us into the life of a young woman trying to piece together her family history 30 years after her father fled Cambodia. A highly-anticipated 7+ stage, 95+ band, three-day music, culinary, and arts festival will descend upon the waterfront from Broadway Pier to the Embarcadero Marina Parks. Featured performers include Slightly Stoopid, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, MGMT, Pennywise, and many more. On November 24, Guitar Legends 3 will bring some of the best guitarists on the planet and an all-star band to the stage.
