New Retailers To Come To Del Mar Highlands Town Center

Published

Tilly’s, a So-Cal lifestyle clothing and accessories retailer, will open at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center in early summer 2010, according to Donahue Schriber, the private Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) that owns and operates a portfolio of 85 neighborhood and community shopping centers encompassing 12 million square feet throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon.

“Del Mar Highlands Town Center has a long history in the Carmel Valley community and we are proud of our growth and achievements over the years, especially through these difficult economic times,” says Del Mar Highlands vice president and general manager Elizabeth Schreiber. “The addition of Tilly’s will continue our dedication to the San Diego community through keeping our vision for the shopping center fresh, relevant, and appealing to shoppers.”

Tilly’s will fulfill much-needed demand for lifestyle clothing, shoes, and accessories among the Carmel Valley area’s teens and young adults. The popular retailer will occupy approximately 7,000 square feet in the space next to the Royal Nursery, formerly occupied by Eli’s. Since 1982, Tilly’s has offered a wide assortment of brands such as Volcom, RVCA, Billabong, LRG, Hurley, FOX, DC Shoes, and Infamous, catering to today’s active youth culture. Headquartered in Irvine, Tilly’s operates over 110 stores throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.

Additionally, AT&T Wireless, a retailer at Del Mar Highlands Town Center since 1998, will expand its existing store to meet the growing demand for wireless phones and services. The new space, which will open later this spring and double in size, will be located near IHOP and occupy approximately 3,000 square feet. AT&T Inc. is a premier communications holding company and leading provider of wireless, Wi-Fi, high speed Internet and voice services.

Originally developed by Donahue Schriber in 1989, the 273,298-square-foot Del Mar Highlands Town Center continues to be the dominant community shopping center in the affluent Carmel Valley area.

The center is located at the corner of Del Mar Heights Road and El Camino Real and is anchored by Ralphs Fresh Fare, Rite Aid, Ultra Star Cinemas, Barnes & Noble and Jimbo’s…Naturally. Donahue Schriber is working closely with the Carmel Valley community to create plans for a re-imagined Del Mar Highlands Town Center, which will provide family-oriented amenities, including intimate gathering spaces and entertainment, that create a sense of neighborhood, as well as an increased variety of quality dining, shopping, and entertainment options in line with the community’s desires. Currently in the process of gathering community comments, Donahue Schriber anticipates the design work for the renovation will be finished by summer, with construction starting in January 2011 and the renovations complete by summer 2011.
