Pacific Ridge Schools New Athletic Center

Pacific Ridge School, a Carlsbad nonprofit, independent school for grades 7-12, celebrated its new Athletic Center with more than 1,000 fans in attendance. The 35,236-square-foot facility is one of the largest and most state-of-the-art high school athletic centers in Southern California, with three regulation basketball/volleyball courts, training room, dance/yoga studio, weight and conditioning room, coaches’ offices, locker rooms and showers, kitchenette for concessions, bleachers for 500 fans, and an outdoor viewing deck of the Astroturf field. The lobby serves as a Hall of Fame, showcasing photo and video montages on five flat-panel displays of the school’s athletic, academic, arts, global, and service achievements.

The facility gives Pacific Ridge a “home” for athletics, according to athletic director Darren Lawlor. “More than 85 percent of Pacific Ridge School students play one or more sports, because our community, including coaches, faculty, staff, parents and spectators, encourages athletic participation.”The Athletic Center, designed by Carrier Johnson + Culture, has many of the design elements of the school’s High School building, with simple and functional features such as passive cooling and ventilation, recycled and native materials, solar tubes and skylights, and retractable walls that open the lobby to the outside. The construction was managed by the Downey Group, and built by J.E. Grant General Contractors, Inc. pacificridge.org
