Summer is coming and the time is right to decide where to send the youngsters for fun and a bit of education. The San Diego region has a wide range of sleep-away and daily summer camps to choose from. Junior scientists, cowboys, chefs, artists, wildlife biologists, and budding lifeguards can all find a place to pursue their passion. So look local for something to give everyone a break from the same daily routine.
San Diego Natural History Museum

Rawhide Ranch
Rawhide Ranch in Bonsall is a high-energy camp experience where respect, integrity, and hard work are learned in a fun outdoor environment. Girl Scouts San Diego
There’s loads of fun in store at Girl Scouts San Diego’s 100+ camp sessions. Consider popular camps like Camp Out Loud, The Glee Project, and Cool Skates, plus new offerings like Shore to Summit, Experimental Squirrels, and Rowing Regatta. Lux Art Institute
Lux’s popular Art Camp develops young artists, grades K-11, as they explore, make, and exhibit art in a museum setting. Each unique week of project-based camp gives young people the chance to meet contemporary artists in order to develop their own visual style. Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA

San Diego Zoo
Children can explore the wonderful world of animals through camp adventures that include animal encounters, behind-the-scenes visits, bus rides, games, and edible food crafts. Each camp is five days, from 9am-3pm daily. Encinitas Jr. Lifeguards
The Encinitas Junior Lifeguard Program at Moonlight Beach is an ocean safety and educational youth program for those ages 9-17. By combining education with recreation, participants learn about the ocean environment, gain professional lifesaving skills, and enjoy swimming, paddling, bodysurfing, and skills competitions. Leo Carrillo Ranch
Cooking at Carrillo Ranch takes place from June 26-30 for kids ages 9-13. This fun week features cooking, baking, a tour of the Carlsbad park’s historic adobes, and roping. Campers will prepare tasty foods including enchiladas, chilaquiles, and corn tortillas cooked on the grill outside.
