The San Diego Symphony and several guest artists performed the grand opening concert at the orchestra’s magnificent new outdoor home, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. After a 13-month delay, the $85 million venue, San Diego Symphony music director Rafael Payare, and the orchestra received a standing ovation before performing a single note, showcasing just how eager the sold-out audience of 3,500 was to inaugurate the venue. Designed by Tucker Sadler Architects, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is an unprecedented resource for the San Diego Symphony’s expanded schedule of diverse outdoor concerts. Managed by the symphony, the venue will also be available year-round for use by nonprofit community groups, schools, and individuals, and includes public walkways, dining pavilions, and beautiful vistas of the waterfront and downtown San Diego in the heart of the Embarcadero.
