The Encinitas City Council was honored by Assistance League for its service to and financial support of the nonprofit’s Operation School Bell program through the Encinitas Community Grant Program. Encinitas Mayor Kristin Gaspar accepted the award for the Council. Each year Assistance League seeks support and commendation from the communities it serves. The City Council and the Mizel Family Foundation provide funding for the city’s Community Grants program, which has focused attention on Operation School Bell since 2006. Donations over these ten years have totaled more than $34,000. Operation School Bell provides new school clothing to civilian and military children whose families are struggling financially. This year the chapter’s philanthropic program provided over $80,000 in new school clothes for local elementary children.

The Encinitas City Council is receiving this award because of the confidence they have shown in the program. Since Assistance League is a 100 percent volunteer organization, grant funding is one way that the chapter continues, year after year, to offer new school clothes to the children of local families who struggle financially.

Since 1998, Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito has provided new school clothes to over 12,000 local elementary children. This year, the program provided school clothes at a retail value of over $80,000 to the North County school districts in Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas and Carlsbad. www.alrsd.org
