What’s New

It’s hard to believe that you will find exactly one hotel along the entire Del Mar coastline that’s on the sand, but that’s the exclusive claim to fame of Del Mar Beach Hotel on Coast Boulevard. The longtime beachfront fixture underwent a multimillion-dollar redesign that debuted last month, refreshing its 46 guestrooms, suites, and two residences, with amenities, programs, and activities scheduled to roll out throughout the year to enhance its dreamy vacay vibe. This is definitely a destination that shouldn’t just be enjoyed by out-of-towners — we locals are just as deserving of a sandy slice of laid-back heaven. delmarhotel.com

Ok, so maybe it actually opened last summer, but for many of us still finding our way back out into the world, we’re celebrating the newest Chin’s Szechwan that took over the spot formerly home to Double Happiness on Camino Del Mar. The sixth location in the restaurant group’s portfolio serves up the crave-worthy Chinese food San Diegans have come to know and love since 1984. govisitchins.com

What’s Now

Is there ever really a time when wellness isn’t in? Three new spots put fitness and beauty at the forefront for Del Martians wanting to look and feel their best. In Del Mar Highlands, Revel Fit Club’s high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts are geared to make getting in the best shape of your life anything but dull. The lights are dimmed, the music is loud, and 50-minute classes can burn up to 1,000 calories. Rotating daily focus areas allow gymgoers to choose spots to pinpoint, from core and upper body to legs, abs, and full body. Bonus: many classes are led by Revel founder Dane Drobny. revelfitclub.com

Also in the Highlands, Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center is a full-service wellness and medical spa offering injectables, facial and skin treatments, lasers, and body sculpting services. In addition to its suite of face and body beauty offerings, BHRC is renowned for its age and wellness services that address and even reverse the effects of natural aging. Hormone replacement and wellness therapies serve to help clients lose weight, manage pain, and promote healing and general health. bhrcenter.com

In Flower Hill Promenade, the opening of Prime Medical Spa offers another option for top-tier med spa services including Botox and other injectables, facial treatments including peels, dermabrasion, and microneedling, plus lasers, body sculpting, and premium skincare products. Weight loss programs and injections, as well as IV therapies for nutrition and weight loss, round out the head-to-toe offerings from Prime, which also has established, award-winning plastic surgery practices in La Jolla and La Mesa. primeplasticsurgery.com

It’s always exciting to welcome tried-and-true concepts from beyond San Diego to our neck of the woods.  Which is why, of course, we’ll be eagerly awaiting the opening of popular OC hotspot South of Nick’s at One Paseo this summer. A casual Mexican counterpoint to its upscale sister restaurant and next-door neighbor, Nick’s Del Mar, South of Nick’s moves into the spot vacated by shuttered Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry concept, International Smoke. nicksrestaurants.com

You’ll have to wait a bit longer for a taste of Steak 48, which is slated for a 2023 debut on the northwest corner of Del Mar Highlands (formerly inhabited by Burlap), but if there’s anything we’ve proven here in San Diego, it’s that a quality steak establishment won’t struggle to find a fan base. With outposts in discriminating meat-loving towns including Philadelphia, Houston, Charlotte, and Chicago, we’ve no doubt that its West Coast debut will live up to its rep. Be ready to dress to impress: Part of the experience here is its “Elegant Casual” dress code — but that shouldn’t be too difficult. This is Del Mar, after all. steak48.com

Stretching our Del Mar boundaries just a bit, we’re excited to see what emerges at the Solana Beach “work-play-thrive” concept Sandbox Solana Beach, located on 101 just north of Via de la Valle. A mere handful of steps from the beach, Sandbox will offer dining and retail (ethical and sustainable vendors only), plus office space and 25 residential units with uniquely beachy perks (surfboard storage, shared ebikes, and plentiful parking). Walkable access to Cedros Avenue and the Solana Beach train station add to its well-planned appeal. sandboxsolana.com
