The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Grand Chef Throwdown is going virtual. With all that is going on in the world, the organization is not able to hold the Chef Throwdown at the Hotel del Coronado this year. “Although we can’t be together in person, we want to keep the amazing chefs, winemakers, brewers, volunteers and donors together and we hope you’ll join us for our virtual event on October 1,” says Lauren Jones, event chair and an adult living with CF.

For the five weeks leading up to the event, participating chefs will be presenting a five-course virtual meal, complete with demonstrations and recipes for viewers to recreate at home.

The Chef Lineup:

Week 1 – Amuse-bouche course with Chef Ruffo Ibarra of Oryx Capital

Week 2 – Starter course #1 with Chef James Montejano of Huntress

Week 3 – Starter course #2 with Chef Davin Waite of Wrench & Rodent and The Plot

Week 4 – Main course with Sam the Cooking Guy of Graze and Not Not Tacos

Week 5 (Sept. 29) – Dessert with Chef Jeremy Harville of Trust Restaurant Group and winner of 2019 Grand Chef Throwdown for Best Dessert

“Quarantine has been difficult on all of our families, but for those with CF and others who have pre-existing conditions, we need to remain extra vigilant. Cystic fibrosis puts people at high risk for complications from the virus,” Jones says. “But I am happy to report amazing results from the new CF drug Trikafta! I have not felt this good in decades. Taking this drug and feeling the results so profoundly has given me hope like I haven’t felt in years. I finally know what it is like to breathe without pain and irritation. And I’ve gone entire days without a single cough. This has never happened before Trikafta. It is all thanks to [those who support] the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Without donations, we wouldn’t have this medicine, plain and simple. But, unfortunately, this is not a cure. This is still a life-shortening disease for all and there are some people who do not benefit from this medicine. But I do believe, now more than ever, that a cure for CF is attainable.” grandchefthrowdown.com
