The Patio on Goldfinch

In a case of the rich getting richer, Mission Hills’ food-centric property value continues to rise with the addition of yet another hot eatery joining high-profile neighbors like Brooklyn Girl, The Red Door, and Izakaya Masa. The Patio on Goldfinch is the second in a young, but exciting lineage of light and breezy, yet innovative and exciting eateries. Like its Pacific Beach predecessor, The Patio on Lamont, version 2.0 features living walls brimming over with fresh flora and an open-air al fresco dining space that’s pup-friendly to the nth degree. A plethora of water bowls await canine patrons, and executive chef John Medall crafts dog treats from filet mignon ends and other luxurious kitchen scraps.

Of course, not all the gastronomic inspiration’s gone to the dogs. Medall’s menu is as creative as it is lengthy. Well over two dozen items are on the seafood-leaning bill of fare, and many include lesser-seen proteins served in interesting ways (abalone picatta, monkfish crudo, sardines with arrabiata sauce). Large, shareable entrees including pork shank with asiago risotto and classic chateaubriand along with modern-day staples such as poutine, mussels and assorted flatbreads. But save room for fromage (The Patio boasts a sky-high cheese cave filled with gems from nearby Venissimo Cheese) and the Twisted Elvis dessert — banana bread, caramelized ’nanas, peanut butter, caramel sauce, and vanilla ice cream.
