Cini Robb &FACE Foundation
Readers’ Choice: Best Philanthropist & Best Nonprofit
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted not only people, but pets, too. FACE, the Foundation for Animal Care and Education, offers a lifeline for families who can’t afford the high cost of emergency or critical care for their beloved animals. Led by co-founder and “Top Dog” Cini Robb, FACE has provided more than $5.2 million in grants since its founding in 2006 to pay for lifesaving treatments. It also offers educational programs and partners with 176 veterinary hospitals throughout San Diego County, which generously discount their services for qualified animal patients. 858.450.3223, face4pets.org   A.N.

San Diego Botanic Garden
Readers’ Choice: Kids’ Birthday Party Venue
A 37-acre urban oasis with four miles of trails and the West Coast’s largest children’s garden, San Diego Botanic Garden is an ideal setting for inspiring learning and exploration. Its Seeds of Wonder Children’s Garden features a working model train set, playhouse, and plenty of picnic tables for gathering. For the adults, the garden’s new Dickinson Family Education Conservatory is a glass-enclosed, 8,232-square-foot structure consisting of plant displays, hanging plant chandeliers, floating plant islands, and a 15-foot living wall. “The Dickinson Family Education Conservatory allows San Diego Botanic Garden to conserve critically endangered plants while educating the community about the wonders of the plant kingdom,” says Ari Novy, PhD, president and CEO of SDBG. “It is a resource for every age group in San Diego County.”  760.436.3036, sdbgarden.org   M.P.

Computers 2 Kids, San Diego
Editors’ Pick: Combating the Digital Divide
Access to technology is a serious issue within the education realm in normal times, but the broad shift to remote learning for hundreds of thousands of local students from kindergarten to college in 2020 has amplified the so-called “digital divide.” In response, Computers 2 Kids, San Diego has refurbished more than 21,000 computer systems for distribution to kids county-wide since the March 16 school closure, according to CEO Chéri Pierre (the 16-year-old nonprofit’s normal average is about 10,000 systems per year), getting computers into the hands of students who otherwise may not be able to afford them and would ultimately miss out on their education. 858.200.9787, c2sdk.org   D.M.
