Legends of Science and Surfing began in 1994 as Surf for a Cure, bringing San Diego’s surfing community together to support cancer research at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health. Today, the event pairs the Legends of Surfing Invitational with an oncology symposium and has raised more than $14 million for cancer research and innovation. Just 12 days after Kevan M. Shokat, PhD, received the 2026 Rell Sunn Award at this year’s gathering, the FDA approved Rasonque (daraxonrasib), a first-in-class targeted therapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer.
