Scientist of the Year Dinner

October 4, 2018 | Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina

The ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) San Diego 2018 Scientist of the Year (SOY) celebrates the work of those advancing science and technology year-round. This year’s SOY honoree is Fred “Rusty” H. Gage, PhD, President and Adler Professor in the Laboratory of Genetics at the Salk Institute. Dr. Gage’s research has demonstrated that humans have a capability to grow new nerve cells throughout their lives by means of a process called neurogenesis. He has found evidence that environmental enrichment and physical activity can further enable new brain cell growth. Dr. Gage joins an illustrious group of former SOY award recipients that includes renowned astronaut Dr. Sally K. Ride; Qualcomm former Chairman and CEO, Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs; innovator and entrepreneur Dean Kamen; and Scripps Translational Science Institute Director, Dr. Eric Topol, plus many more. 619.298.0390, sandiego@arcsfoundation.org  Darlene G. Davies
