First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare is coming to San Diego, the only stop in California for the national traveling exhibition that commemorates the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. While the exhibition has been organized by the Folger Shakespeare Library, the multitudinous local events have been created by The Old Globe and the San Diego Public Library, both of whom were selected to co-host the San Diego portion of the First Folio tour in partnership with UC San Diego, San Diego State University, the San Diego Public Library Foundation, and KPBS. The result is a dazzling array of programs for visitors of all ages and backgrounds, with events taking place in a variety of venues.  The great book, when on display at San Diego Central Library, will be opened to Hamlet’s “To be or not to be,” one of Shakespeare’s most frequently quoted lines. A showcase of original props, costumes, photographs, and ephemera from the Globe’s 81-year history will augment this display. There will also be rare and exquisite editions by and about Shakespeare. The conversations between noted Shakespearean scholars and theatre directors will be of particular interest. A number of Shakespearean authorities will travel to San Diego to take part in the four-day festival. 619.23.GLOBE, www.firstfoliosandiego2016.org   DARLENE G. DAVIES
