Celebrating Couture 2018
Celebrating Couture 2018
August 16, 2018 | Omni La Costa Resort & Spa
Join Neiman Marcus and the Globe Guilders for Celebrating Couture 2018: The Art of Fashion, an exclusively curated show featuring the fall collections of a special group of designers. Guests will be greeted with a Champagne reception and will enjoy live and silent auctions, a delicious lunch, and of course, the beautiful fashion show. “We are thrilled to be working with Neiman Marcus again this year,” says Kim Neapole, Globe Guilder president and Celebrating Couture chair. “The grand finale of Zac Posen gowns will be spectacular.”
Key themes to watch for and to have in your wardrobe now and in the coming season: leopard prints, sequins, leather everything, peacock hues, top-flap handbags and western boots. Ken Downing, who spots trends for Neiman Marcus, says, “Anytime sequins — shine bright day and night and every moment in between, no special occasion needed.” On the colors for fall, he says: “Strut your stuff in an eye-catching palette of saturated blues and greens. Every wardrobe should have a moment of these magnificent colors.” He also loves lace-up boots — “They’re chunky but chic, lending just the right amount of ’90s edge to balance a flirty dress!” — and crystal jewelry. “Every day’s a disco with smoky crystals and jet-black jewels with a flair for the dramatic.” And when it comes to suiting, he says, “Power tailoring: strong shoulders and double-breasted shapes are a sophisticated way to define your look for work or play.” After the show, guests will be invited to view these trends up close. Neiman Marcus will create an exclusive, one-of-a-kind boutique for browsing and shopping.
Celebrating Couture benefits The Old Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs. Neapole says, “It is such a privilege to not only be a part of this beautiful event but also bring awareness to the important work that the Old Globe is doing in San Diego.” The proceeds will continue to expand the impact the Globe makes in the community and help make theatre matter to more people. The Globe Guilders have a 63-year tradition of supporting The Old Globe, San Diego’s largest arts institution. They are a volunteer-based group of individuals who donate their time and their talents to enhance the diverse programs at the Globe.
This year, the Globe Guilders will honor the late Peggy Matthews as a beacon of fashion and longtime supporter of the Old Globe. Fashion informed most of Peggy’s life, 17 years of which she spent as an editor at Mademoiselle Magazine. As part of her responsibilities, she traveled across America to stage fashion events. She mingled with iconic couturiers and also enthusiastically worked with student fashion organizations. Based in Chicago, she became Midwest Editor of Mademoiselle. After she retired, she and her husband, Bob, moved to San Diego, where she was persuaded to accept the position of Regional Promotions Director for the Broadway department store. She was a consummate volunteer managing publicity for a myriad of organizations here in San Diego. With her background deeply imbedded in fashion, the fact that Peggy gave generous monetary gifts to the Globe Guilders and The Old Globe costume department surprises no one. Hats off to Peggy!
