American Heart Month

In honor of American Heart Month, the Cardiovascular Disease Foundation is offering  a series of health lectures, screenings, and presentations throughout the month of February. Special events include “Women and Heart Disease and What’s New in 2013,” “Healthy Habits, Healthy Kids,” and a “Community Open House and Wellness Issues for Families Panel Talk.” All lectures include an interactive question and answer period and are open to the public and free of charge. RSVP to Malinda Engerer. Women and Heart Disease and What’s New in 2013
Thursday, February 7, 2013, 10am–1pm
CVDF offers complimentary blood pressure and body fat screenings, interactive medical discovery exhibits, and healthy snacks at Curves 3881 Mission Ave., suite C1 Oceanside, CA 92058. From Noon to 1:00 p.m. Board certified Cardiologist Franklin Zalman M.D., F.A.C.C. will speak about women, heart disease, and new findings in 2013.

 

Healthy Habits, Healthy Kids
Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 10:30am–12:30pm
CVDF’s interactive Healthy Habits, Healthy Kids medical discovery exhibits and tip sheets will be at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum 320 North Broadway

Escondido, CA 92025. Youth and parents are invited to explore the medical models in a hands-on introduction to healthy behaviors. There is a $6.00 museum entry fee.

Community Open House and Wellness Issues for Families Panel Talk

Thursday, February 21, 2013, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
CVDF hosts an open house offering an introduction to CVDF programs and services, free consults from Heritage Senior Care, plus a healthy cooking demo and tasting from Cooking 4 Life at 4:30 p.m. From 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., after the open house, CVDF presents a panel discussion on wellness issues for families. CVDF Medical Director and President Franklin Zalman M.D., F.A.C.C. will offer tips on “Healing Your Heart in 2013,” Gina McBride, CFP, will discuss “Opportunities and Pitfalls in the New Tax Act,” and Dietician Allison Liu MS, RN, CSND will speak on the topic of “Healthy Eating for Families – Genetically Modified Foods.”

The Open House and Panel talk take place at The CVDF office at 3088 Pio Pico Dr. #202 Carlsbad, CA 92008. RSVP to Malinda at 760-730-1471 x304 or Engerer@cvdf.org.
