Shelter to Soldier’s 10th Anniversary Be the Light Gala took place at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe to raise funds to continue its dedication to rescuing dogs and serving military veterans in need through the nonprofit’s psychiatric service dog, emotional support animal, and therapy dog training programs. Cox Communications returned as Presenting Sponsor, and guests enjoyed a reception featuring a silent auction and hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and specialty cocktails accompanied by live music.

The reception was followed by a seated dinner, program featuring keynote speaker Brandon Shelton, US Army with service dog Cooper Pupp, and live auction emceed by Clint Bell. A Pioneer Award was given to Henry Schubach, while Hero Awards were given to Nicky Moore, Ranch & Coast Editor-in-Chief Mia Park, and the late Steve Redfearn, whose award was accepted by his son, Willie Redfearn. Guests also observed graduated service dogs as well as service dogs in training and had the opportunity to interact with a team of therapy dogs and Shelter to Soldier Canine Ambassadors. The gala raised a record-breaking $193,496.
