ProduceGood, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Feeding San Diego harvested approximately 2,000 pounds of oranges from the private home of Jim and Sarah Sleeper in Rancho Santa Fe. The oranges will supply 6,000 servings of nutrient-rich fruit to San Diego’s hungry. Unused citrus is a particular problem in the Rancho Santa Fe community, and an unfortunate irony in San Diego County, where one in three people are food insecure and 40 percent of all food goes into a landfill. It was the first large-scale pick of its type since the pandemic began.
