Papa Doug and Lisa Manchester and the Manchester Family Foundation generously donated $1 million to the 114th Anniversary Charity Ball benefiting Chadwick Center for Children & Families at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, the single largest gift in Charity Ball history. As the largest children’s advocacy center in San Diego County, the Chadwick Center plays a critical role in the county’s response to child abuse and neglect through coordination of the San Diego County Child Victim-Witness Protocol and the weekly Child Protection Team. Vital programs include prevention programming, trauma counseling, parenting groups, and a program for children who have experienced abuse and trauma and have been asked to testify in court, providing education on the court process and techniques to minimize the anxiety related to court testimony.

For more than a century, the volunteer-organized Charity Ball has brought together community leaders and supporters from throughout our region for a night of elegance, recognition, entertainment, and commitment to children in need. Chaired by Danitza Villanueva, the black-tie affair was themed “Come Fly with Me” and took place at Hotel del Coronado, complete with a VIP reception, general reception, a white-glove dinner in the historic Crown Room, and dancing and entertainment in the Ocean Ballroom.
