From Setback to Success: How a Childhood Accident Shaped Chris Mova’s Legal Career
For Chris Mova, founder of Mova Law Group in San Diego, the path to becoming a personal injury attorney was paved by a pivotal childhood experience. At the age of seven, Mova was involved in a serious car accident in Virginia that left him with a traumatic brain injury and a debilitating stutter.
“My parents, recent immigrants from Iran, were taken advantage of by an insurance company that offered a quick settlement,” Mova recalls. “They didn’t understand the long-term implications of my injury or the legal system well enough to know they were being shortchanged.”
The aftermath of the accident was challenging for the young Mova. He endured years of speech therapy and ridicule from classmates, all while his parents struggled to cover the mounting medical bills. It wasn’t until he entered his teenage years that Mova began to fully grasp the injustice his family had faced.
“That experience lit a fire in me,” Mova explains. “I realized how many families must be in similar situations, facing off against powerful insurance companies without the knowledge or resources to fight back effectively.”
It was this realization that set Mova on a path to pursue a career in law. He excelled academically, studying hard and graduating at the top of his class in college before going on to attend law school. His personal history gave him a unique perspective and drive that set him apart and would shape his approach to practicing law.
“I founded Mova Law Group with a clear mission to provide the kind of representation I wish my family had had,” Mova states. “We’re not interested in quick settlements or treating clients like numbers. Every case is personal to us.”
Today, Mova is known for his tenacious advocacy and his firm’s commitment to personalized client care. His law firm has built a reputation for taking on challenging cases that other firms have turned away, often achieving substantial settlements for his clients.
“There was a case recently where four other law firms had told the client they had no case at all,” Mova shares. “We took it on, fought hard for three years, and secured a $450,000 settlement. That’s the kind of outcome that makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
Mova’s journey from accident victim to successful attorney has given him a deep well of empathy to draw from when working with clients. He understands firsthand the physical, emotional, and financial toll that injuries can take on individuals and families.
“Every client who walks through our door reminds me of my parents all those years ago — confused, worried, and in need of a strong advocate,” Mova reflects. “It’s my mission to be that advocate and to ensure that no one else has to go through what my family did.”
Although founded in San Diego, Mova has since opened offices servicing cases in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Temecula.
