Sophie Machado’s lifestyle shop, The Salt Collection, on South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, is both surf and turf. The wife of professional surfer Rob Machado, Sophie has selected treasures from her global travels — Australia, India, Thailand. The renovated beach bungalow is filled with casual clothes, home accessories, sunglasses, candles, batik and origami makeup bags, and handmade jewelry. A few of Rob’s custom surfboards, propped casually against walls, are also for sale.

Set up like a living room with a pillow-strewn couch, a rattan coffee table, and chairs, the shop invites relaxation and conversation. It features lacey off-the-shoulder tops, dresses and rompers by ASTR, Acacia swimwear, Blank NYC denim, and embellished sandals by Steve Madden. For men, there are t-shirts and shorts from The Mad Hueys and Roark Revival, and footwear by People. Tots will love the soft harem shorts and hoodies by Lennon + Wolfe.

Sophie, a 27-year-old Orange County native, met Rob in Huntington Beach when he competed in the 2010 U.S. Open of Surfing and she was marketing for tournament sponsor Red Bull.
