From graphic details to colorful floral prints, Oscar de la Renta’s fall collections offer classic shapes that look to the future. Oscar’s New York director of retail Annie Ng and South Coast Plaza store manager Christine Hitz showed off the designs recently at an exclusive event to benefit The Country Friends.

The pre-fall collection, the iconic designer’s last before his death in October, was inspired by his love of gardening and color: a black tulle gown embellished with embroidered fuchsia flowers, a floral fit-and-flare with a hot pink asymmetrical ruffle, a cocktail dress with flowers cascading down one side.

De la Renta’s handpicked creative director, Peter Copping, paid homage in his first fall collection for the design house, but offered something new, including smart day wear inspired by the New York skyline. Copping often mixed plaids, stripes, and windowpane checks for a 3-D effect in dresses, blouses and pantsuits. Of course, no Oscar collection would be complete without fabulous fairy-tale gowns, chic cocktail dresses, and vibrant color. The fall collection was a fitting tribute to design legend de la Renta, and a harbinger of stylish things to come from the man now at the helm. (714.754.9044, www.oscardelarenta.com)
