Major leaguer James Shields plays for the Chicago White Sox, but it’s San Diego that the former Padres pitcher and his wife, Ryane, call home. Plagued by a lifetime of sports injuries, Shields was inspired to share the healing and rejuvenating experience of cryotherapy, a treatment that oxygenates blood and creates a whole body healing response that targets weak areas in the body. Reaching temperatures as low as -110º Celsius (-166ºF), whole body cryotherapy offers a fast and effective alternative to traditional ice baths and is the driving force behind a new lifestyle of wellness. The freezing temperatures produce results that alleviate soreness and inflammation, increase energy, promote weight loss and skin clarity, and more. In early 2016, the couple opened their first Cryo Shield cryotherapy facility, in Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar. A second location at The Alexandria innovation campus in Torrey Pines opened last month. Over the course of the next year, the duo aims to grow the Cryo Shield brand with locations throughout San Diego County. cryoshieldtherapy.com DEANNA MURPHY
