Over/Under: Woven Craft at Mingei
Woven crafts have been part of the human experience since our earliest beginnings and continue to be made around the world as objects of use as works of art to be contemplated for their beauty and technical mastery.
Over/Under: Woven Craft at Mingei brings together more than 75 works including textiles, basketry, garments, hats, toys, and jewelry from the museum’s permanent collection. Among the objects featured are Filipino giant fish traps, a meticulously crafted Japanese silkworm basket, traditional woven rain boots, and Egyptian pictorial textiles. Highlighting the local art community, the exhibition also features the works of Kumeyaay artist Eva Salazar and San Diego-based weaver Sarah Winston.
