GIA Jewelry Career Fair

Published

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will present more than 100 jewelry industry jobs at this year’s Jewelry Career Fair and Open House at the Institute’s Carlsbad world headquarters on October 22. Well-known companies including Ben Bridge, Blue Nile, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co. and Zale Corporation will be looking for potential job candidates on site.

Considered the gem and jewelry industry’s preeminent recruiting event, attendees — from recent graduates and seasoned professionals to those seeking a career change — will be able to explore a wide array of job opportunities. Some of the various positions include: jewelry buyer, gemologist, bench jeweler, retail manager, designer, customer service representative, appraiser, marketing associate, administrative assistant, sales director, and more.

Career Fair and Open House has a comprehensive agenda of panel discussions, career coaching, on-site recruiting and classroom demonstrations.

“We have some of the best-regarded companies in the jewelry industry seeking quality candidates at Career Fair,” says Kathryn Kimmel, vice president, chief marketing officer and cofounder of GIA Career Fair. “Professionals agree that networking is the key to a successful career and this event offers students and job seekers an unparalleled ‘instant’ network to begin that first step.”

There will also be special gem and jewelry exhibits on display including Carrera y Carrera jewelry recently worn by pop singer Katy Perry and reality star Kristin Cavallari from MTV’s The Hills, the “Golden Treasures by Akelo” collection, which includes one-of-a-kind pieces of gold jewelry and precious golden objects; and more than 1,000 gems and minerals on exhibit at the GIA Museum. This is the only day of the year visitors can visit the Institute without a pre-arranged appointment.

GIA Career Fair and Open House will be held Friday, October 22, from 8:30am-2:30pm in Carlsbad. Recruiting will begin at 10:15am. The event is free and open to the public. (800/421-7250, www.careerfair.gia.edu)
