Upright and Grand
Month of January
The San Diego Symphony presents the multi-faceted Upright and Grand piano festival, featuring performances, master classes, and workshops in multiple venues and across musical genres. Pianist Marc-André Hamelin kicks off the festival, performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Other notable performers include Ben Folds, Horatio Gutiérrez, and a not-to-be-missed joint performance with pianist Emanuel Ax and renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. Even if your talents are more chopsticks than Chopin, the Play Me: Pianos in Public Spaces installation encourages all piano lovers to try their hand on pianos placed in ten locations throughout the community, including Horton Plaza, Liberty Station, and California Center for the Arts, Escondido. 619.235.0804, sandiegosymphony.org
