The Other Mozart

On Sunday, March 29, at 7pm, at the Encinitas Public Library, CabaretCaccia, now in its third season of intimate musical adventures celebrating the solo voice, presents “The Other Mozart,” a dynamic, theatrical, and moving one-woman show. Created by and starring actress Sylvia Milo, “The Other Mozart” is the true and untold story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus — a prodigy, keyboard virtuoso, and composer, who performed throughout Europe with her brother to equal acclaim, her work and her story lost to history.

Featuring the opulent beauty of an 18-foot dress, designed by Magdalena Dabrowska from the National Theatre of Poland, “The Other Mozart” is based on facts, stories, and lines taken directly from the Mozart family’s humorous and heartbreaking letters.

Along with music composed by Nannerl’s famous brother, original music is composed for the play by Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen, well-known composers with the International Contemporary Ensemble of New York City. The instruments that Nannerl knew intimately, such as clavichords, music boxes, and bells, as well as teacups, fans, and other ordinary objects that might have captured her imagination, are integrated into the music in the play.
