Monet: The Early Years

Feb. 25-May 29, 2017

A visit to San Francisco’s Legion of Honor is always a pleasure. Monet: The Early Years is the first major U.S. exhibition focused on the early period of Claude Monet’s artistic life. Approximately 60 paintings will be shown, and their arrangement will trace the evolution of his artistry from 1858 through 1872. Works have been drawn from top collections like the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Pieces from public and private collections are also represented. Monet’s mastery of varied genres early in his life before impressionism and his involvement in shaping that movement are apparent in this show. 415.750.3600, legionofhonor.famsf.org   Darlene G.
