Mainly Mozart’s Power Couple

Mainly Mozart has joyously welcomed Michael Francis as its new music director. He is a very busy man — in addition to this new role, he is also assuming a similar role at The Florida Orchestra, all while continuing as chief conductor and artistic advisor to Sweden’s Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra. Francis has worked with a wide-ranging group of artists that include Lang Lang, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Rufus Wainright, and he has recorded several albums, the most recent being the complete Rachmaninoff piano concertos with Valentina Lisitsa and the London Symphony Orchestra.

With all of this talent and extensive credits, Francis also brings a welcoming persona to San Diego. He has a complementary partner in Cindy Francis, his wife and manager of the business aspects of his career. Cindy studied economics at Harvard, earned her MBA from Harvard Business School, and worked in various professional positions in London, New York and Dubai.

Linda Satz recently arranged a luncheon in her La Jolla home to introduce Cindy to a representative group of women who are leaders in the arts community. The sophisticated luncheon guests were captivated. Transcendent musical moments lie ahead for Mainly Mozart. (619.239.0100, www.mainlymozart.org)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
