Kinky Boots

The glitzy musical Kinky Boots drives home the message “The best way to fit in is to stand out!” Stand out you will in the sturdy stiletto heels of this hilarious show with book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Grammy winner (and now Tony winner for Kinky Boots) Cyndi Lauper, and choreography by the great (also Tony winner) Jerry Mitchell. In all, the show won six 2013 Tonys. The body of work of both Fierstein and Mitchell is familiar to Old Globe playgoers, but also to legions of theatre aficionados across the country. Kinky Boots’ central characters include a shoe factory owner and an over-the-top entertainer. Together, they create onstage magic. This musical, funny and moving, has played to sold-out audiences in New York and most likely will do the same at San Diego’s Civic Theatre.
