Finish Chelsea’s Run 5K & Family Festival
The Fifth Annual “Finish Chelsea’s Run” 5K and Family Festival is fast approaching and more than 8,000 participants are anticipated to participate this year on Saturday, March 7, at 7:30am at Balboa Park. The race honors Chelsea King, who was tragically taken five years ago. Shortly thereafter, the Chelsea’s Light Foundation was created by her parents, Brent and Kelly King.
Proceeds fund the Sunflower Scholarship Fund that has granted $275,000 in scholarships to 40 students over the past four years, and more than $10,000 to local students through the “Joie de Vivre” program. The Foundation strives to protect the innocence of childhood by inspiring positive change in our communities through awareness, education, and advocacy.
Leading up to race day, hundreds of students throughout San Diego County at the elementary, middle, and high school levels serve as student ambassadors at their schools. They form teams and come up with spirited attire to wear on race day, creating a community spirit that extends beyond their campus. Through Chelsea’s Light Foundation’s partnership with Girls Scouts San Diego, several troops also form teams and attend this amazing day.
