Dr. Seuss’s Boids & Beasties
Dr. Seuss’s Boids & Beasties
Through October 6, 2019 | UC San Diego Geisel Library
Fans of Dr. Seuss have a limited number of days to see the delightful exhibition, Dr. Seuss’s Boids & Beasties. That is what the author called the creatures he brought to life in his books. For this exhibit, UC San Diego Geisel Library selected original Theodor Geisel “Dr. Seuss” drawings that exude whimsy and fantasy. With colorful and imaginative illustrations and catchy, simple rhymes, Geisel’s work is recognized and loved throughout the world, providing a universal connection between people. A commercial artist before he started writing Dr. Seuss books, Geisel moved in the world of advertising in the 1920s and 1930s and worked as an editorial cartoonist in the 1940s. He used all his know-how and experience as he turned to writing the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Yertle the Turtle, The Lorax, and other tales. La Jolla was his home for many years and, following his death in 1991, his personal collection was donated to UC San Diego by his widow, Audrey. And just this month, a new Dr. Seuss book, Dr. Seuss’s Horse Museum, was launched by the Library. The Dr. Seuss collection now has 20,000 items such as drawings, scrapbooks, sketches, and other ephemera. 858.534.2230, library.ucsd.edu Darlene G. Davies
