Complementing a Santaluz couple’s lifestyle through design

A key component of interior design is understanding the client’s décor preferences as well as lifestyle. “The design for this home revolved around a few different requests from the homeowners,” says John Hayward, senior interior designer with Nativa Interiors, who worked with a Santaluz couple to bring their vision to life. “The first was that it was contemporary with clean lines. The homeowners are in their 30s and they wanted to keep it youthful in feel. Another request was for durability, since they have dogs and cats. Lastly, the clients like soft neutral tones with pops of blue as accents.”

The dining table is made up of three square sections that can be separated and moved around the room, seating as many as 12. Metal-framed host and hostess chairs are architectural and unique, a handcrafted blue marbled wall makes a bold statement, and oversized buffet lamps add drama to a very high ceiling.

“The mirrored seating configuration in the living room, with beautiful grey Italian leather sectionals and marble cocktail tables, keeps the square room symmetrical,” says Hayward. Custom glazed linen draperies with blue accent banding tie the dining and living rooms together.

The open concept kitchen and family room is a bit more casual. A custom Italian leather sectional in a soft grey is durable for everyday use by the homeowners and their pets, while a geometric patterned shag area rug follows the angles of the room. Hayward says the “piece of jewelry in the room” is the amazing cabinet below the television. “The hand-carved details on the doors with the sparkle of the polished nickel details makes this a showstopper,” he says. In the built-in bar area, “acrylic klismos-style barstools add a hint of the traditional in a contemporary way and really allow the eye to see the details.” A pop of color in the polished stainless steel swivel chair and contemporary art, along with an amazing glass chandelier, complete the room. nativainteriors.com   Mia S.
