Cody Lovaas at The Carlsbad Village Theater

San Diego Music Award’s Best New Artist, Cody Lovaas, will take the stage at The Carlsbad Village Theater on January 10 for an all-ages show presented by The Belly Up. The San Diego-raised singer/songwriter is best known for his soft rock acoustic genre, singing original songs about surfing and the California coast. Lovaas will showcase his original songs including “Take a Ride.”

“There is nothing better than getting up on stage in front of a San Diego crowd and playing music that makes everyone feel good,” says Lovaas. “I am inspired by the ocean, surfing, and the San Diego lifestyle. I have been playing music since I was seven years old and it has been a very fun journey ever since.”

Lovaas discovered a voice and pure direction that makes it hard to believe he is only sixteen years old. His preferred means of travel is a surfboard, which carries him through crystalline days along the Pacific Coast. Influenced by artists such as Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Ben Howard, and Ed Sheeran, Lovaas seamlessly combines his love for music and surf into fluid blues-imbued acoustic machinations. There are three things that Lovaas is most passionate about: music, surfing, and making a difference in the world.

Recently, at the Feeding the Soul Foundation HoliDAZE show, Lovaas shared the stage with two-time Grammy winner, singer/songwriter, Jason Mraz. Lovaas and Mraz sang an original holiday duet, combining the classic hits, “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” and “Jingle Bells.”

“Playing next to Mraz is always inspiring and fuels my excitement for music,” says Lovaas. “The night consisted of an incredible line up of amazing local musicians and I was honored to be the youngest and give back to a wonderful non-profit, Feeding the Soul Foundation, that presents concerts for causes. To be a friend of the organization has introduced me to an incredible local music crowd who all support my career and inspire me to be my best.”

Opening for Lovaas on January 10, then playing alongside him during the show, is violinist, vocalist, artist and songwriter Caitlin Evanson. Evanson is a classically trained violinist who has recently traveled the world playing violin and guitar and singing background vocals behind seven-time Grammy winning superstar Taylor Swift. Prior to joining Swift in 2007, Evanson toured and recorded with Ringo Starr, and before that was on the road and in the studio with Dave Stewart and also with Big & Rich. In addition, she has performed for the troops overseas as part of several USO Tours.

Tickets to the January 10 performance are $18 in advance; $20 at door, and include a copy of Cody Lovaas’ Belly Up live album. (858.481.8140, www.bellyup.com)
