Bikes and Beers of North County has designated the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy as its charity of choice for the November 29 Bikes and Beers ride.

Bikes and Beers will donate a minimum of 20 percent of proceeds from the event to the conservancy, dedicated to preserving, protecting and restoring natural and cultural resources within the 55-mile long San Dieguito watershed.

“As bicyclists, we are particularly enthused by their work on making ‘Coast to Crest Trail’ a reality. When this trail is completed it will allow riders to travel 70 miles, all the way from the ocean at Del Mar to Volcan Mountain just north of Julian,” says Tim Stempel, ride organizer.

Currently the Conservancy is working on extending a seven-mile portion of the trail that will connect the Boden portion of the trail to the Sutherland portion. The ride is a fun, recreational experience for cyclists of all abilities that will tour several premier North County San Diego breweries, while raising money for the conservancy.

The full event route is about 22 miles with some hills and some flats, split into three legs, and estimated cycling time is about 2–3 hours but will depend on the pace of each participant.

At each brewery participants will be greeted with a tasting of beer as well as water, snacks, restrooms, and a chance to sit and visit with fellow riders. At the final stop, Belching Beaver Brewery, everyone will receive a full pour to enjoy. There will be food trucks at a couple stops along the way, as well as at the final location for riders to refuel.

The ride will begin with the first wave leaving the Belching Beaver Brewery at 10am (980 Park Center Dr, Vista, CA 92081). Following that, a wave will leave every 30 minutes. Riders are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of their scheduled wave departure time.

The first stop is at Lost Abbey, followed by Mother Earth, and then returning to Belching Beaver to finish up.

On the day of the event there is parking at the Belching Beaver Brewery.  All participants must be 21 or older and must keep their ID with them as they may be carded at any of the breweries. Riders and are required to wear a helmet and must follow the rules of the road for safety. The cost to participate is $50. (www.bikesandbeers.org)
