Once Upon a Star

Published

On Saturday, September 28, from 6-11pm, the Maritime Museum of San Diego will host the Star of India’s 150th Anniversary Gala, presented by Cymer. For the first time, the iconic Star of India will be moored in San Diego Bay, adorned in lights, and filled with music. Guests will be ferried out to this historic sailing vessel from the Embarcadero to enjoy lavish cuisine, spirits, and entertainment. Onboard, themed levels — harkening back to the Star of India’s former destination ports, India, New Zealand, Alaska and the Isle of Man — will serve as exotic ports of call for the evening. Honorary gala chair is William Scripps; honorary co-chair is Steve Cushman. Gala proceeds will be used to complete the San Salvador Project, a working replica of the ship that carried Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo to California in 1542.
