First Responders Appreciation Night

Published

On Wednesday, September 11, beginning at 9pm, Downtown San Diego hotspot Side Bar will host a special First Responders Appreciation Night, benefiting the San Diego Fireman’s Relief Association to honor and remember the brave firefighters who died in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. San Diego firefighters and EMTs will hop behind the bar as guest bartenders. That evening, 100 percent of door proceeds and the guest bartender tips, and a portion of Champagne bottle service, will benefit the San Diego Fireman’s Relief Association.

NYC Fire Department Lieutenant Joe Torrillo, a 9/11 survivor, will also be in attendance at Side Bar. After spending the first 15 years of his career in Engine Company #10 (across the street from the South Tower of the World Trade Center), on 9/11 Torrillo was one of the first to respond after American Airlines Flight #11 struck the South Tower. During the rescue operation, Torrillo was buried alive, and suffereda fractured skull, broken ribs, a broken arm, crushed spine and heavy internal bleeding. At the event, Torrillo will share his heroic story. (www.sidebarsd.com)
