Marvelous Museum Of Man

Published

Looking for things to do? Show up at the Museum of Man the first day of this month at 10 am sharp to take part in a scavenger hunt, and allow two hours to complete the activity. Clues to a mummy riddle will be found in exhibits throughout the museum. Over the rest of August the museum has sprinkled various events such as a book review and discussion with Dr. Lynn Gamble, talking about her book “The Chumash World at European Contact” on August 4th. In a party mood? Then, the very popular series TOWER After Hours, which celebrates specific countries, is the answer and is a hot item in town. It offers lots of socializing and merry making. Samoa is in the spotlight on August 27, joining a long list of already feted countries. While at the Museum of Man, stop by the Treasures of the Month case, which displays a few of the myriad objects in the museum’s own collection. This exhibit changes monthly, giving viewers a sense of the exquisite quality and vast array of items in storage.

The Museum of Man is housed in the remarkable California Building, with its iconic tower that is the reference point for Balboa Park. It was built as a permanent structure for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, and has recently undergone structural repair, thus ensuring enjoyment of it by future generations of visitors.
