Mainly Mozart

The Mainly Mozart Festival takes center stage at the historic Balboa Theatre June 8 with pianist John Lill performing Beethoven’s sixth piano concerto. Beethoven in a Mozart festival? Don’t fret — there will be plenty of Mozart for music lovers during the fest, which runs from June 8-19. There will also be a wide range of soloists and featured musical instruments. Maestro David Atherton returns to conduct the esteemed Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which is filled with concertmasters and principal players from many of the nation’s finest orchestras. A special attraction at Mainly Mozart 2010 is the appearance of the heralded Frederica von Stade, whose song recital on June 18 will include works by Mozart, Mahler, Ravel, Poulenc, and Sondheim.
