Published

The Ohara School of Ikebana, San Diego Chapter presents its 37th annual flower show and bazaar on February 27-28, from 11am-4:30pm on both days. The free event will take place in Room 101 of the Casa del Prado in Balboa Park. Japanese-style floral arrangements made by Ohara chapter members will be on display, and sushi and tea will be available for purchase, along with baked goods and small floral arrangements made especially for the occasion. Four demonstrations of the Ohara School style of flower arranging by teachers of the technique will take place each day. Ikebana, one of the traditional arts of Japan, began over five centuries ago and has evolved into many traditional schools. The Ohara School of Ikebana is over 100 years old and has thousands of members worldwide. The San Diego Chapter has presented its annual flower show to the local community each spring since it was founded in 1973 by Akiko Bourland. (www.oharaschoolsandiego.org)   JANE SHIOMI
