A Christmas Carol

Published

Looking for a way to bolster your holiday spirit? Cygnet Theatre’s A Christmas Carol returns this season, but is packaged differently than myriad versions of the past. With the popular WCYG Players, Cygnet Theatre opens its live “broadcast studio” production of Carol on November 23. This is a perfect coupling of the traditional seasonal piece with a unique format. Holiday music, radio commercials, and live sound effects add to the experience. Cygnet artistic director Sean Murray understands the appeal of radio plays. He knows that “so much action takes place in the audience’s imagination. We add to the experience by supplying exciting visuals, innovative sound effects and pure talent to help bring the story to life.” Although Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol debuted over 160 years ago, it speaks to people of all ages now more than ever. The story of Bob Cratchit, Ebeneezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Christmas ghosts is meaningful on many levels. (619/337-1525, www.cygnettheatre.com)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
