Art and Science electrify UC San Diego as part of PST ART. EMBODIED PACIFIC is a partnership between UC San Diego Visual Arts and Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, featuring work by 30 artists who worked alongside researchers in laboratories and field sites, exploring oceanography. In tandem, Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work, at the Mandeville Art Gallery at UC San Diego presents a retrospective of this husband-and-wife team who were among the earliest ecological artists. Founding members of the Visual Arts Department at UC San Diego, the Harrisons pioneered environmental art and science collaboration concepts. Details here. Through Dec. 7.

Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo at the Mingei. Dubbed the “Olympics for art in Southern California,”  this is one of 70 exhibits as part of the Getty’s 2024 PST ART initiative: Art & Science Collide. Blue Gold combines craft, science, and history to explore this color’s complex past and present. Featuring stunning objects of creative expression coupled with the astonishing study of a chemical reaction, this exhibition presents indigo as a compelling manifestation of art and science. Through March 16.

Wonders of Creation: Art, Science, and Innovation in the Islamic World is a PST ART exhibition showcasing more than 200 extraordinary works of art and objects spanning 13 centuries. Visitors will see ancient tools and treasures, ornate jewelry, lavishly decorated book pages, and large-scale works of contemporary art, all framed through the lens of wonder. Through January 5. Prix Pictet Human is the tenth cycle of the prestigious international Prix Pictet award. Photographs by twelve shortlisted artists delve into the vast spectrum of human experiences, emotions, relationships, and challenges that define our collective existence. MOPA@SDMA is the only US stop on the international tour of Prix Pictet Human. Through December 15. Details here.

Foster + Partners: Architecture of Light and Space showcases architectural models and designs by Foster + Partners, the global design team led by Lord Norman Foster, one of the most esteemed international architects of our time and recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Prize for Architecture. This exhibition highlights the team’s award-winning designs while bolstering fundraising efforts for Foster + Partners to renovate the SDMA’s west wing,  increasing exhibition space.
