San Diego Festival of Beer

San Diego’s original beer festival returns for its 25th anniversary, all in the name of cancer-fighting charities. Hosted by San Diego Professionals Against Cancer, the festival will feature 50+ breweries pouring 120 varieties of craft beer. VIP ticket holders will gain access to an exclusive private aged beer selection. In addition to beer, the annual fundraiser provides waterfront views, upbeat music from various DJ booths in partnership with iHeartRadio, and food for purchase. Harvest for Hope Fundraiser

The Emilio Nares Foundation will celebrate its 16th annual Harvest for Hope fundraiser to raise money for low-income, underprivileged families whose children are battling cancer. Attendees will enjoy bites and sips from Carnitas’ Snack Shack, Harry’s Coffee Shop, Pamplemousse Grille, The Lodge at Torrey Pines, Waypoint Public, Thorn Brewing, and many more. New in 2019 will be a special appearance by live art entertainer and cancer survivor Amy Burkman. CBS 8’s Carlo Cechetto will be the guest speaker. Since its inception, ENF has provided families with resources and support. Inaugural Authors Luncheon

Nine Months Matter Coalition, in partnership with UCSD Health’s Center for Better Beginnings, presents an exclusive event with celebrated authors Joe Yogerst, Susan Smith Daniels, and Susan Hannifin MacNab to raise awareness for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders hosted by the Nine Months Matter Coalition. Books will be for sale during the event, and the authors will be available to personally sign books. The Nine Months Matter Coalition is a grass-roots organization dedicated to raising awareness of the grave dangers of alcohol to a developing fetus and raising funds for treatments for children that have been affected. All net proceeds from the event will help fund the MILE Program, a Math Interactive Learning Experience, which has recorded successes in teaching math and behavioral strategies to kids with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). Starry Starry Night

The 17th annual Starry Starry Night, themed “Por Nuestros Niños,” will benefit Voices for Children, a local nonprofit organization which transforms the lives of children in foster care by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). Guests will have the opportunity to bid on unique experiences during the live auction and raise their paddles to Fund-a-CASA. The gala will conclude with a lively after-party. New this year, Voices for Children will present its inaugural “CASA of the Year” award, recognizing a volunteer advocate who has displayed exceptional service to children in foster care. As the founder of Women for Women International, a grassroots humanitarian and development organization dedicated to serving women survivors of wars, Salbi has helped more than 480,000 marginalized women rebuild their lives in eight conflict zones. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, CCS was started in 1969 on the campus of San Diego State University as the first Women’s Studies Department in the U.S. The organization created an “underground railroad” of private homes helping women and children escape domestic violence. In 1970, a handful of women gathered for a day of bridge and tennis hosted at a friend’s Rancho Santa Fe home and decided to raise money to support United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego. The group became known as the Beach & Country Guild and the day became the annual Dia del Sol luncheon, the organization’s “day in the sun,” a mainstay on calendars during a bustling fall gala season. This year will be the 50th annual event, appropriately named “Hearts of Gold” in honor of this significant year.
