Shoppers can dream. That for every design-driven restaurant that opens in San Diego,  a hotter sister boutique concept will follow suit. The case study: Michelin-recommended restaurant, Paradisaea, and its younger, Bohemian sister, Tropical Punch, which opened in September.

Both Bird Rock venues are designed by Architectural Digest “AD 100” Designers Georgis & Mirgorodsky. And both have been birthed by husband-and-wife owners Zoe and Eric Kleinbub. The inspiration? Global travels, art, and more art.

Zoe Kleinbub

“Behind each piece we’ve selected is a story that resonates with us,” says Zoe. “We hope those stories inspire our customers to create their own unique narratives within their homes.”

Tropical Punch is set within the landmark “Piano Building” designed by William Kesling. Originally built in 1949, the Streamline Moderne building has been meticulously transformed and restored by the Kleinbubs with the help of B&R Architects and New York City-based Georgis & Mirgorodsky.

The concept: A Bohemian bazaar brimming with fine jewelry, objets d’art, ceramics, and private-label treasures that appeal to well-traveled luxury shoppers.

The design itself is the real draw, cementing its must-see status. The Kleinbubs commissioned a dazzling line-up of permanent fixtures. There’s the cactus-inspired Le Nopal chair by Georgis & Mirgorodsky; the elegant Zoe Pouf, featuring intricate knot details by Maki Yamamoto; A palm mural transforms in the dressing room is by Eloin Rivera; a wall mirror by Christopher Puzio reflects the local ties.

Maximalists will feel at home with a punchy palette of coral pink and deep green furniture. In addition to their private label, Tropical Punch offers a curated selection of sought-after brands including Nak Armstrong jewelry, StudioAmos woven objects, Bklyn Clay ceramics, Ginori1735 porcelain tableware, Baccarat crystal, Amalia.love and Eli Halili jewelry, Josh Herman and Workaday Handmade ceramics, FRITZ GLASS, All Roads textiles, La Chicharra Cerámica, Lay Lo Designs hand-dyed silks, Jade Sapphire Exotic Fibres, Rivka Knit Designs, Doug Britt sculptures and paintings, Sharon Britt jewelry and creations, and Incausa.
