San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance hosted the 41st annual Rendezvous In The Zoo (RITZ) gala at the San Diego Zoo. The theme was “Funk in the Trunk,” revisiting the funky days of the 1970s. Guests wore their “baddest threads” and every sequin sparkled for a cause at this year’s groovy event. Kim and Marco Alessio and Caroline and Emil Wohl served as host committee cochairs. Over 700 attendees experienced a radical night at the San Diego Zoo. They enjoyed radical reception stations, groovy cocktails, engaging entertainment including live music, and encountered far-out wildlife ambassadors along the way. There were also one-of-a-kind items at the evening’s silent auction.
This year’s RITZ gala benefited the most transformative project in the history of the Safari Park. The all-new Denny Sanford Elephant Valley will change the footprint of the Safari Park and the future for endangered elephants worldwide. In this completely reimagined experience, wildlife allies will make lifelong connections with these gentle giants and see the world through their eyes, while at the same time helping secure a future for the species.
