Friends of Balboa Park, a nonprofit that preserves and enhances the legacy and beauty of the Park, celebrated its 20th Annual Awards Celebration. This year’s event, hosted virtually via Zoom, recognized institutions and individuals across the Park that have enhanced it throughout the years. Those recognized included the Japanese Friendship Garden, park ranger Kim Duclo, “Betty Peabody Emerging Young Leader of Balboa Park” Kristen Mihalko, and more. Friends raised over $30,000 to benefit several projects and programs for this upcoming year. The program was co-chaired by community leaders Julie Cowan Novak and Kristi Pieper, with longtime Friends benefactor Marie Tuthill as the honorary chair.
