Known as “San Diego’s Sidewalk Chalk Dad,” Erick Toussaint will render some of the Timken Museum’s most admired paintings in chalk on weekends in Balboa Park during July and August.

Budding artists will have a great time creating their own chalk art on a large chalkboard present on the plaza, right beside Toussaint. This activity will alternate weekends with a mural design program which visitors are encouraged to join. Especially good news is that all art supplies will be provided.

The suggestion of chalk art came from Toussaint’s daughter, who thought it would be a great outdoor activity during the pandemic last summer. This side job is on weekends because, during the week, he serves as Design Director at the nearby San Diego Natural History Museum.

Chalk art and mural painting are fun, and the public is encouraged to reconnect with the community through this interactive program.   Darlene G. Davies
