After the pandemic forced the 2020 cancellation and 2021 rescheduling of the beloved BNP Paribas Open, the Coachella Valley will buzz with tennis once again as fans and the world’s top players descend on the venerable Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the return of this unofficial “Fifth Major” in its customary spring timing.
Home to the Masters 1000 tournament since 2000, the IWTG — self-proclaimed “Tennis Paradise” — will offer plenty of highlights on-court, where stars including 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and reigning Australian Open champ Ashleigh Barty are confirmed to play. Off-court, it’s known for its see-and-be-seen atmosphere, champagne bar, an array of culinary options, and celeb sightings.
In that vein, kicking off the fortnight on March 7 is Taste of Tennis, hosted at Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa, itself a destination steeped in tennis history. The indulgent, fan-friendly evening merges award-winning chefs with tennis legends for tastes and sips, all benefiting the Harper for Kids character education nonprofit.
